About the Building Department
The Building Department is responsible for ensuring
that buildings are constructed and repaired safely and used properly. The Building Department issues
building electrical and plumbing permits. These permits allow the construction,
reconstruction, repair, alteration and demolition of buildings and structures
as well as the installation of equipment. The Building Department enforces
the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Building Code and the Hanover By-Laws. The
Department is responsible for the uses and occupancy of all buildings, structures
and land.
Office & Inspection
Hours
The Office is open: Monday, Tuesday and Thursday 8 am to 4
pm; Wednesday 8 am to 8 pm; and Friday 8 am to 12 noon.
A Building Inspector is usually available to meet with the public:
Monday – Friday
8 am to 10 am
3pm to 4pm
The Electrical Inspector, William Laidler, is usually
available in the office:
Monday to Friday
11:00am to 1:00pm
The Plumbing & Gas Inspector, Gary Young, can be contacted at his office:

Building Department. No applications will accepted by e-mail or U.S Mail. Permit
fees are payable at the time the permit is issued.
